Custom Tissue Paper Costs: Comparing UK Quotes

Custom printed tissue paper costs depend on the sheet you order and how you use it. A low price per sheet can become expensive if each retail order needs two sheets, staff trim every pack, or half the run becomes obsolete after a rebrand.
For a useful comparison, ask every supplier to price the same size, paper weight, artwork, quantity and delivery destination. Then compare the cost of wrapping an actual order. This guide explains the calculation without treating an illustrative price as a live quotation.
What changes the price of printed tissue paper?
Sheet size: larger sheets use more material, but they may wrap a product in one piece. Compare finished dimensions in millimetres. Two quotes for “large tissue” are not necessarily quoting the same product. Check the tissue paper size guide before requesting prices.
Paper weight: GSM means grams per square metre. It describes paper mass, rather than guaranteeing a particular thickness or level of protection. Big Tissue's online builder offers 17gsm and 30gsm tissue. Test how each folds around your product using the materials guide.
Print specification: the number of colours, coverage and production requirements can affect cost. A small repeating logo and a heavily printed background should be quoted from the actual artwork. CMYK is available on both builder weights; ask for confirmation on requirements outside the online options.
Quantity and designs: spreading production preparation across more sheets can lower the unit price. However, 1,000 sheets of one design is a different request from four designs of 250 sheets. Do not assume designs share a minimum quantity or setup charge.
Give suppliers one comparable brief
Copy these fields into your enquiry and attach the same artwork to each request:
- Finished sheet dimensions, in millimetres.
- Paper colour and weight.
- Number of artwork versions and quantity of each.
- Print colours, coverage and any colour reference.
- Product being wrapped and whether printed tissue touches it directly.
- Delivery postcode and number of destinations.
- Required arrival date, including time for proof approval.
- Any cutting, bundling or delivery labelling requirements.
Ask for a total that identifies artwork preparation, print setup, cutting, carriage and VAT treatment. Check whether a repeat order will incur further preparation charges. A headline sheet price alone cannot answer those questions.
Calculate cost per packed order
Use this formula for the tissue portion of your packaging cost:
Delivered tissue cost ÷ usable sheets × average sheets per order.
Use the same VAT basis throughout your comparison. Calculate other packaging components and packing labour separately, so you can see what is driving a difference.
Consider this invented example, which is not a Big Tissue price list:
- Option A costs £180 delivered for 1,000 smaller sheets. A typical order needs two sheets: 18p × 2 = 36p of tissue per order.
- Option B costs £260 delivered for 1,000 larger sheets. The same order needs one sheet: 26p per order.
Before allowing for waste, Option B costs 10p less per packed order despite its higher price per sheet. If 50 sheets from Option B become unusable, its effective cost becomes £260 ÷ 950, or approximately 27.4p per order.
Now time the wrapping process. At an illustrative labour cost of £15 per hour, an additional 12 seconds of handling costs 5p per order. Trimming or joining sheets can therefore change a comparison that initially looks close.
When does a larger order save money?
Compare what you will actually use before the branding or packaging changes. Suppose an illustrative 1,000-sheet run costs £260 and a 2,000-sheet run costs £400. If a rebrand means you only use 1,200 sheets from the larger run, the effective tissue cost is £400 ÷ 1,200, or 33.3p per used sheet.
That is higher than the smaller run's 26p, assuming all of that run is used. The larger purchase may still be appropriate if demand is reliable, but the unit discount alone does not establish value. Our sheet quantity planning guide helps estimate demand before choosing a tier.
Check the practical extras before accepting
Confirm what a sample proves. A sample pack demonstrates existing print examples and paper handling; it is not automatically a proof of your own logo. Ask separately about any custom production sample you need.
Also establish when the lead time starts. Big Tissue's usual turnaround is around seven working days after proof approval, subject to the confirmed specification and order. Include approval time and confirm the delivery date if you are preparing for a launch.
Finally, test the whole pack. Using extra tissue to stop a heavy item moving is rarely a sound substitute for suitable transit protection. Price the presentation layer and protective packaging according to their different jobs.
Questions about custom tissue paper prices
What is the minimum order?
Big Tissue's online custom tissue paper orders start at 250 sheets. For multiple designs or requirements outside the builder, confirm the minimum for each specification before budgeting.
Is one-colour tissue always cheaper than full colour?
The answer depends on the complete specification and quantity. Compare both options in the builder or request a quote using your artwork; do not apply a generic price difference to every order.
Where can I get a current UK price?
Use the custom printed tissue paper builder for supported combinations. For special colours, cutting, several designs or delivery requirements, request an itemised quote with the brief above.
